about the exhibition
Mythic Ground: New Stories for Old Lands explores the re-enchantment of contemporary life through the lens of the mythic imagination.
Through a suite of atmospheric abstract paintings and sculptural 'moveable monoliths', the project reimagines ancestral myths and stories in conversation with the more-than-human world within a contemporary context.
Myth can help us to understand who we are and how we might reimagine ourselves and the world. These works are prompts for re-enchantment, inner reflection, story-making, and renewed relationships with the Land.

Description:
Drawn from the Scottish ‘waterhorse’ story, this painting reimagines the tale as one of devotion and deep creative union. In my version, she chooses to join the waterhorse, disappearing into a rich and hidden life beneath the surface.
Made with 20 years of mythic practice and trauma-informed holding, this work carries more than colour and form; it’s a companion for seekers and a future heirloom crafted to speak louder the longer you live with it.

Made to bring quiet mythic resonance into everyday spaces, crafted for those seeking sacred objects over trends
Description:
A reworking of the old tale of ‘Bluebeard’, this painting is an invitation to trust the voice within (the intuition that senses what cannot yet be named). Bluebeard’s forbidden door is not only a warning, but a threshold: a call to know yourself more fully.
I approach these mythic retellings as cultural and personal offerings, rooted in sacred story and 20 years of studio devotion. This piece is made to be lived with and to reveal more of itself as you live with it.

Description:
Inspired by the many tellings of the Selkie story, this painting is a meditation on longing and belonging, the way the wild sea calls to something in all of us. The Selkie’s skin, her return, her refusal to be contained all are invitations to remember what feels like home.
Layered with mythic lineage and trauma-informed holding, this work is more than visual: it’s an object of slow magic, meant to become a companion and future heirloom.

Description:
Informed by Madeline Miller’s retelling, this painting offers a re-visioning of Circe: Witch of Aeaea, not as villain but as complex, tender, and powerful. Her journey into self-discovery and reciprocal relationship with Nature resonates as an archetype for reclaiming one’s voice and magic.
With 20+ years in mythic practice and trauma-informed holding, I create works like this as companions (cultural and personal offerings that invite awe), made to live with you for decades to come.

Crafted as slow magic: a piece that deepens and transforms as you walk beside it
Description:
This work explores the story of the Handless Maiden, a story of resilience and the cyclical path of healing. We are reminded that each return deepens us, alters us, remakes us and it’s clear that “The forest is never the same the second time around”
Painted in layered acrylic, the surface shifts with light, inviting slow looking and slow magic. As with all my work, it’s shaped by two decades of mythic practice and trauma-informed presence, designed to walk beside you through change.

Crafted as a future heirloom: art that offers depth and devotion rather than fleeting trend
Description:
The Cailleach (pronounced ‘kai - akk’ or ‘kahl - yahk’ and many other ways) goddess of Winter, creator of landscapes, fierce and unyielding. She shapes storms and stones alike. This painting honours her many myths: ancient, wild, and not to be softened.
Infused with 20 years of research into the mythic and a practice rooted in both reverence and trauma-informed care, this work carries her power forward as a living presence in your home or favourite space as a reminder of cycles, power, and renewal.

They are held in quiet realms beyond these pages, weaving slow magic until the time is ripe. They have a very exciting journey ahead, but secrets must be kept for now…
When their story is ready to be told, they will come forth. If your soul stirs for them, join the circle to be among the first to receive their call, or email for a private viewing.
