Re-Enchantment Through Art: A Journey Into Story, Devotion, and Creative Renewal
I have been drawn to the power of myth and story for longer than the two decades that I’ve been practicing art. Not as dusty tales from the past, but as living stories that pulse beneath our skin, waiting to be heard anew. My latest body of work is a devotion to that pulse: paintings that serve as companions for seekers, reflections on transformation, thresholds, and the cyclical rhythms that shape both land and soul.
Each piece in my exhibition Mythic Ground: New Stories for Old Lands is a reimagining of an old myth. From the Selkie who claims her wild self, to the Handless Maiden who returns changed, to Circe’s tender sovereignty. These are stories of loss and return, shadow and light, unyielding power and delicate vulnerability.
Rooted in a trauma-informed, mythic practice, my work is meant not only to be seen, but to be lived with. I see them as future heirlooms and prompts for the mythic imagination, crafted in layers of paint over many months in my studio as the weather turned and I began to see my breath in front of me as I worked. They invite slow looking, ritual engagement, and a deeper conversation with the living world and your own creative spirit.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing deeper reflections on each mythic story and the paintings they inspire. Together, we’ll explore what it means to reclaim voice and power, to cross thresholds within ourselves, and to cultivate devotion over discipline in our creative lives.
I invite you to join this journey of re-enchantment and to find in these stories a mirror for your own transformation. I hope you will find in these paintings a companion for the path ahead.
If you feel called, explore the works, connect with their stories, and imagine what it might mean to live mythically in your own life.
